In 2016, Thanney Pyper, visited Cali, Colombia, in what was a life changing experience. He shared his experiences with the Very Rev. Dr. Charles McMullen (West Church, Bangor) about how that all came about.
Thanney, who is a founding member of El Abrigo Northern Ireland, travelled to Cali, Colombia in 2016 to help fit some toilets at a children’s home. A simple job for someone like Thanney, who is a builder by trade! But what seemed like a straight forward job turned out to be a devastating experience. The building was unsafe and had to be shut down.
Thanney met Pastor Hendrik Hoeré just prior to this trip. Whilst in Cali, Thanney also helped El Abrigo by carrying out some building work at their church in Cali. From there, their relationship grew and Thanney returned in 2017 to complete work on a new floor of a building for the El Abrigo Children’s Foundation.
Thanney talks about his reliance on God in order to get the job done. From being able to erect a building structure despite torrential rain and power tool issues, to battling with a broken hand!
Quite amazing!
